A Survey of FPGA-Based Robotic Computing

Recent researches on robotics have shown significant improvement, spanning from algorithms, mechanics to hardware architectures. Robotics, including manipulators, legged robots, drones, and autonomous vehicles, are now widely applied in diverse scenarios. However, the high computation data complexity of robotic algorithms pose great challenges its applications. On one hand, CPU platform is flexible handle multiple tasks. GPU has higher computational capacities easy-to-use development frameworks, so they been adopted several other FPGA-based accelerators becoming increasingly competitive alternatives, especially latency-critical power-limited With specialized designed logic algorithm kernels, can surpass performance energy efficiency. In this paper, we give an overview previous work covering different stages system pipeline. An analysis software optimization techniques main technical issues presented, along with some commercial space applications, serve as a guide for future work.
